4 Tips For Keeping your GE Fridge Fresh
Nobody wants a smelly fridge, yet almost everyone has dealt with some odd odor lingering in their refrigerator. It’s important that nothing has gone bad in your fridge, especially since you are keeping food in there that you will be eventually eating.
If you’ve found another issue that is keeping you from preserving your food, let the licensed and experienced technicians at Repair Care in Toronto a take care of your GE Fridge Repair. Give us a call now as we are open everyday and will guarantee same-day, convenient service.
Clean the entire fridge
The first step may sound unappealing, but it is definitely important. Dispose of anything that you won’t eat in the next few days, or anything that’s already gone bad. If you want to save energy, unplug your fridge and put the remaining food (from the fridge and freezer) in a cooler full of ice. Take the time to scrub all the shelves, drawers, and all other surfaces in the fridge. You never know where food may have gotten as you store your groceries.
Stay natural
It’s probably best not to use dangerous chemicals in a place where food is stored. Fortunately, there are natural cleaning solutions that are safe around food. A safe solution can be made using half a cup of baking soda in a sink of warm water. A half and half solution of white vinegar and water can really help eliminate odor and make that fridge shine.
Other ways to get rid of odors are to put in a tray of baking soda on a cookie tray. Additionally, a dish of dried coffee grounds, oats, and even charcoal briquettes can help take the smell away.
Use airtight containers
Don’t store Chinese takeout or burgers in their cardboard containers or leave leftovers open. By storing everything in airtight containers, this helps your food last longer and fresher. Airtight containers also trap odors inside and prevent a mix of odd smells from blending and producing a more awful smell.
Keep track of leftovers
If you are having trouble remembering when you stored your leftovers, you can label and date leftovers. You’ll know exactly when your food was packed, and you’ll know for sure whether it’s good to eat or needs to be thrown away.
Keep fresh foods visible
Keep your fresh produce on the top shelf so you’ll see them every time you check your fridge. By tucking them away in drawers, you may end up forgetting them, resulting them in going bad. This way, you’ll be aware of what to eat before foods go bad.
Air Filters
Some fridges are compatible with air filters that help neutralize odors and supply a fresh flow of air into your fridge. Be sure to change your air filter at least twice a year.

5 Components To Check When Your Stove Won’t Heat Up
Is your stove not heating up and you’re unsure of what to do? Before you call in for a professional, you can try to diagnose the problem of your Kitchenaid stove. Figuring out what’s causing your stove to not heat up is not difficult. There are a few components you want to examine to determine if it’s going to be an easy fix, or if you’re better off having a professional perform the repair.
If your problem isn’t listed below, perhaps you it’s time for you to call in for a professional! For a Kitchenaid stove repair in Ottawa, give our technicians at Repair Care a call at 1-888-501-9702!
Replace the Bad Burner
If only one burner is acting up, there is a chance that the issue comes from the single burner itself. To check if the problem is within the burner, swap it with one that is working. If that burner still doesn’t heat up, then the problem is either with the infinite switch or burner socket. Call a licensed technician to come in and test these components, and to find a viable solution for your stove.
Heating Element
When the surface element isn’t working, it is likely due to the heating element. Similar to a light bulb, after a period of use the heating element will burn out. If the surface burner doesn’t work, a replacement is required; you cannot repair a heating element.
Surface Element Board
The surface element board has relays that administers the power supply to the burners. If the relays fail, the surface element cannot transmit power. If two or more of the burners fail, it’s an indicator that the issue is with the surface element.
Loose or Burnt Wires
It is common for the wires near the heating element to burn out. There is no connectivity from the heating elements to the coils when the wires are burned out. To check whether the wire is burnt, examine the wires that connect to the heating element. It will be noticeably burnt if this is the issue.
Power Issue
A likely possibility is that the range is not receiving an appropriate amount of voltage to heat up. Use a multimeter to check the power at the outlet to determine if the electrical outlet has ample voltage.
Checked all the possible culprits but still not sure why your Kitchenaid stove won’t heat up? Call into Repair Care at 1-888-501-9702 for a Kitchenaid stove repair in Ottawa today!
Tips & Tricks to Keep Your Clothes Free From Wrinkles
Grabbing clothes out of your dryer only to find that they are wrinkled can be quite annoying, especially if you’re in a rush and don’t have time to set up your ironing board and smooth out the wrinkles.
Although some pieces of clothing are bound to get crumpled after spending excess time in the dryer, the methods of how you dry your clothes can actually be the cause of the wrinkles. Most people can admit that they have left the house with more creases on their clothes than they would like, that’s why at Repair Care we have put together a few easy tips you can incorporate into your drying process to reduce those unwanted wrinkles in your clothes!
However, if you notice that your dryer is not only wrinkling clothes but also damaging them, this is a sign that it’s time for a repair! For an LG dryer repair in Ottawa, call into Repair Care at 1-888-501-9702 and book your same-day repair.
Dryer Tips to Help Reduce Wrinkles
Sort each load accordingly. Whether it is a washing or drying cycle, it’s important to properly sort your clothing. Separate your clothes by fabric type and weight to ensure that you can choose the proper washing cycle for that specific load. For example, putting lightweight shirts together with denim pants can cause the shirts to be crushed by the jeans, not allowing them to dry properly. Take a look at the tags on your clothes to make sure you are putting them in the right cycle.
Don’t overfill your washer. You want to avoid overloading the dryer. If there’s too much clothing crammed into the dryer, there won’t be enough room for the heat to circulate. This causes clothes to come out damp, and increases the chances of wrinkles.
Allow for the clothing to breathe. If your clothing is still damp after a drying cycle, do not fold them up or put them away yet. Wrinkles form more easily on wet pieces of clothing.
Place any damp pieces of clothing on a flat surface and allow for them to air dry completely before folding and putting them away.
Don’t forget to use fabric softener. Fabric softeners are great for softening your clothing, as the chemicals from the detergent can cause them to harden. They also help to prevent static cling and reduce the amount of wrinkles that form on your clothing. Just remember to clean out the lint filter after every cycle.
Shake out your clothes before placing them in the dryer. When you are removing your clothes from the washer, you will notice that they are all twisted and distorted. Rather than tossing them straight into the dryer, shake them out first. This can help reduce wrinkles and speed up the drying process.
Don’t leave your clothing in the dryer. Your clothes will still wrinkle after a proper drying cycle if you leave them sitting in the dryer. When the dryer stops moving, your clothes also stop moving, and they end up layered and crumpled up on top of each other. The weight of all the clothing will cause wrinkles if they aren’t aired out. Remove the clothes soon after the drying cycle is over to avoid this.
Two Unwrinkling Lifehacks You Can Try
Ice Cube Hack. If your clothing is coming out of the dryer wrinkled and you don’t have the time to iron it, throw in a few ice cubes into the dryer along with your crumpled clothing and run it on the hottest cycle. The steam that is produced by the heat of the dryer and ice cubes will help smooth out the creases on your clothing. This lifehack works great with smaller dryer loads. However, this method is not applicable with larger loads or heavy fabric such as jeans.
Shower Hack. An old, yet effective, drying hack that has been circulating for a long time is using steam to unwrinkle clothing. This is a method is commonly used by people who don’t own a steamer. Start by turning on the shower and run hot water so steam is produced. Once steam has been produced, shut off the water and hang your clothing in the shower. Block off all open airways and allow your clothing to steam for about 15 minutes. The steam will help smooth out the creases on your clothing. If you already take hot showers, you can leave your wrinkled clothing hanging on the bathroom door while you shower; this will smooth out your clothing while you shower, so you’re not wasting water.
Excessive wrinkling can actually cause damage to your clothing. If you think your dryer is the cause of the wrinkles, it’s time to call in for a professional repair! For a LG dryer repair in Ottawa, call Repair Care at 1-888-501-9702 today!

Baking Soda & Salt
Baking soda is commonly used as an abrasive cleanser. It’s well known for its ability to remove tough muck that’s been stuck onto the stove for a long time. Before applying anything onto the stove, make sure it’s completely turned off and has cooled down to prevent injury.
Sprinkle water all over the stovetop and then do the same with baking soda. Be generous with the amount of baking soda you apply. Sprinkle more water onto the baking soda and make sure it forms a paste-like texture.
Allow the mixture to sit for about 20 minutes. If you notice any spots that have dried out, spray more water on them as it’s important to keep the baking soda wet, as this is what loosens the stuck on food.
After 20 minutes or so, use a dish sponge to scrub the baking soda paste in circular motions. Pay extra attention to the dirtier areas. For areas with more stubborn particles, add some salt into the paste solution and scrub at it. The harshness of the salt won’t damage your stove but it’ll be tough enough to remove the stubborn stains.
After you’ve scrubbed down whole entire surface, use a clean damp cloth and wipe down the surface. Wipe it dry with a kitchen towel or paper towel. Use the same solution of baking soda and water to spot clean the areas that require extra cleaning. Your stove top should be squeaky clean after this.
Water & Vinegar
If your ceramic stovetop is badly stained with lots of cooked-on food, pour water on the surface of the stove and turn on the elements. Once the water starts boiling, the food that’s stuck should start to lift off. Turn off the elements after a couple of minutes and use a damp cloth or paper towel to remove the particles. Be careful in case the elements are still hot! If they are, wait a few minutes until they’ve cooled enough so you won’t burn yourself.
For the particles that are more stubborn and refuse to come off, add a little bit of white vinegar to the water and wait for it to boil. The vinegar will help loosen any fat-based food, making it easier to remove. Again, wait until the burners have cooled a bit to start scrubbing.
Disinfect the Surface
Once the surface of your stove top is clean, it’s important to disinfect the area as there may still be some bacteria latched onto the edges of your stove. Gently scrub at the edges and cracks on and around the stove with a clean, damp toothbrush or any other small brush.
Afterwards, wet the area with undiluted white vinegar and let it sit for about 30 minutes before wiping it away with a paper towel. This will fully disinfect the surface and area of your stove, keeping it clean and bacteria-free!

Keep Your Washer In Top Condition With These Maintenance Tips
Like all other household appliances, the more your GE washer is used, the more likely it is to experience issues over time. It is important to keep in mind that proper maintenance of your GE washer will help prolong its lifespan. If you’re experiencing issues with your GE washer and need a repair in Edmonton, call RepairCare where one of our professionals will help you set up an appointment. Below are some tips you can follow to maintain your washing machine!
Use Proper Detergent
Keep in mind to use detergent that is made specifically for high-efficiency (HE) machines and use the correct amount; more does not necessarily mean better. Regular detergents produce a lot of sud, and will gradually build up a layer of film of the drum and hoses of your washing machine. This can potentially produce mold and may eventually damage your machine mechanically or electronically. Read the label of your detergent carefully to see if it’s high-efficiency compatible.
Use Speed Best Suitable For Your Load
Make sure you are using the spinning speed that is most suitable for the size of the load you are washing. Not only will this keep your clothing lasting longer, but it will keep your washer lasting longer as well. If you are constantly using the high spinning speeds to wash your loads even if it’s unnecessary, the more prone your machine is to extra wear and tear. This could potentially damage your washer in the long run if you constantly have it on the wrong speed.
Avoid Liquid Softeners if Possible
Liquid softeners work by layering oils onto your laundry as well as the machine. As the residue builds up, it becomes harder to wash off your washer. If you don’t want to completely forego liquid softeners, then one tablespoon is sufficient enough for an entire load. This also applies to bleach. If you want to use bleach, the recommended usage is one tablespoon for concentrated bleach and two tablespoons for normal bleach. High efficiency washing machines uses less water so the less product used, the better.
Immediately Remove Finished Laundry
You should avoid leaving damp clothing in the washer, as it can cause mildew to grow and leave behind nasty odors. After removing your clothing from the washing machine, leave the door of the washer open for it to air dry. This can help to prevent mold and mildew from building up in the washer.
Clean the Rubber Seal
Any kind of rubber seals are prone to develop mold over time if it is constantly exposed to You can clean the rubber seal of the washer door by using water and vinegar with a 1:1 ratio. Q-Tips are great for areas that are hard to reach or clean. Remove any hair or fabric as they are usually what traps the odor and houses mold. You can also wipe the inside of the drum with the half and half solution.
Monthly Deep Clean
By performing a deep cleanse on your washer around once a month, you can help fight germ and bacteria build up. One method is to pour distilled white vinegar into the dispenser instead of laundry detergent and then run an empty cycle. Vinegar helps dissolve bacteria and neutralize odors. You can also add a cup of baking soda directly into the drum and run the machine on the hottest cycle using the extra rinse option. The baking soda helps neutralize the pH level while providing a scrubbing action. You can use these two methods separately, or one after the other for an extra clean. These will help you thoroughly clean your washing machine.
Clean the Drain Pump Filter
If you notice that there is slow water drainage, extreme vibrations or unusual pauses during a wash cycle, it might be an indicator to clean the drain pump filter. It’s common for hair and fabric to get clogged in the drain pump filter leading to slow water draining. The drain pump filter is usually located at the bottom front of the machine behind a tiny trapdoor.

3 Common Fridge Problems You Can Fix
Is your broken down Samsung fridge making your nervous? You’re not alone.

Freezer Ice Build Up
Does the inside of your freezer look like the North Pole? There are a couple of reasons this might be happening. The most common is there might be too much humidity inside the freezer. If the freezer door is left open for too long, it can raise the humidity level, which can result in more frost and ice buildup. This can also occur if your freezer door is not aligned properly. Check your door hinges and make sure they aren’t askew. If they are, simply take a screwdriver and tighten any loose screws.
To remove the ice, remove the contents of your freezer and place them somewhere cold. Then with a hair dryer, melt the ice in your freezers. Once it has loosened a bit, take a scraper and gently chip it off the interior of your freezer. When all of the ice has been removed, take a dry cloth and wipe up any excess water; once that’s done you can put your food back in. Poor air flow in a freezer can also result in ice buildup; so when you’re putting your food back, make sure that they are evenly space and not blocking any fans so that the freezer can regulate air flow properly.
Cycling Too Often
Is your fridge cycling so much you’d think it was getting ready for a bike race? Not only is this loud and annoying, it means your fridge is using a lot of energy, which will cost you. The most common cause is that the condenser coils are plugged up dust and other debris. This is a fairly simple fix; clean the condenser coils.
To do this, turn off the power to your fridge. This shouldn’t take you too long, so you won’t have to remove food if you’re quick. Next, locate your fridge’s coils; in most fridges they are located at the bottom of the unit. Once you have found the coils, remove the grill and, using a vacuum cleaner hose, remove the buildup. You can use a brush or cloth to remove any debris that is really stuck in the coils. Once that’s done, put the grill back into place and turn the power back on.
Leaking Water
Water leaking from your fridge is never fun, but it is common and is usually a fairly easy fix. A common reason for a leaky fridge is a blocked defrost drain or clogged. If a blocked defrost drain is your problem, this means that the drain hose is blocked up. This causes ice build up in the hose, which means that the water in the fridge has nowhere to drain, so its will drain out the bottom of your fridge.
Turn off the power to your fridge and locate the blocked hose. Next, find the where the blockage is and use a coat hanger to loosen the clog, or if it’s ice blocking the hose, you can use a hair dryer to melt it. When the hose is clear, you can put it back in the fridge.

The glass stove top on your KitchenAid stove gives your kitchen a more modern feel.

If you find yourself with a broken stove, call Repair Care for repair. We have experience fixing all models of stoves, and service the Vancouver area. Keep reading for our 5 easy tips to keeping your KitchenAid glass stove clean, without causing damage to your stove or yourself.
Heat Indicators
Before you start cleaning off your stove you need to make sure that it is completely off first. Not only will this help stop you from getting burnt, but if you spray any kind of cleaning solution onto the stove while the elements are still hot, it can actually burn the solution right into the glass, making cleaning it even harder. Most modern glass top stoves will have heat indicators to tell you if the element is still hot or not, usually in the form of a light. Once the light goes out, it is safe to start cleaning your stove. If there isn’t a light, carefully hover your hand over the elements, without actually touching them! If you feel heat rising up, they’re not cooled down enough yet.
Specialty Cleaners
The easiest method to cleaning your stove top is to use specialty cleaners. There are many different ones you can buy in stores. Make sure you get one that won’t damage your stove top; ones that are have a creamy or liquid texture should be safe to use on glass top stoves. To use, add a tiny drop of cleaner, about the size of quarter, and using a damp cloth, spread it all over the surface of the stove. Scrub the stove until all the grime comes off. You can also allow it to sit for a few minutes to loosen up stuck on food debris or spills. You can use a plastic spatula to scrape off caked-on gunk.
Homemade Cleaners
Instead of spending extra money on specialty cleaners, you can use items that you probably already have in your kitchen. These are less expensive, easy to use, and more environmentally friendly, such as these:
Lemons: Lemons will not only clean off any baked on grime on your stove top, but the will get rid of stains and make your stove smell amazing as well. To clean with lemons, take a spray bottle full of hot water and squeeze the lemon juice into the bottle. When you’ve squeezed all the juice in, give the bottle a quick shake and spray the water and lemon solution onto the stove. Then take a damp cloth and scrub the top of the oven. Continue spraying the lemon solution until the stove is clean.
Baking Soda: Using baking soda to clean to clean your stove is not only easy, but very effective. Give your stove a quick wipe with a damp cloth; then sprinkle a tiny bit of baking soda directly onto the stove (you can add more if you need it). Then, with the cloth, scrub the baking soda into the stove to remove any baked on food debris and grime. Repeat until the stove is clean.
Vinegar: Vinegar is another household item that is great for cleaning. Just like the lemons, take a spray bottle full of warm water and add a tiny bit of vinegar to it. Then give it a quick shake and spray onto the stove top; take a damp cloth and scrub until the stove is clean.
Clean Immediately
The best way to keeping your stove top clean is to clean it right away. When you leave spills, sauces and grease to dry, they are very hard to remove. Some will even stain your stove. Sticky or sugary spill can actually make their way into the glass and cause the glass to crack over time. Also, if you leave spills and debris to dry, you’ll have to scrub harder to remove them, which puts pressure on the glass and can also cause cracks. So don’t be lazy and clean up the mess on your stove right away.

5 Tips to Keep Your Fridge Smelling Fresh
Throw Out Anything That’s Expired: Rotten food is one of the biggest causes of gross smells in fridges. If you have food sitting in your fridge that’s rotting, moldy, or just past its expiry date, it’s time to throw it out. If you clear out food before it starts to go funky, it will prevent the food from rotting and smelling nasty, and keep your fridge more organized as well. Try the first in, first out rule; keep food that went in first closer to the front so that you don’t forget about it.
Clean Fridge: An easy way to keep your fridge smelling fresh is to keep it clean. Every couple of months make sure you remove everything from your fridge, throw out anything that’s past its prime, wipe down all of the shelves and wipe down the interior of the fridge with warm, soapy water. One tip to keep in mind- if you notice food or liquids have spilt clean it up right away. It will make it much easier to clean later on, and keep your fridge smelling better, longer.
Defrost Fridge: Did you know that smelly odors can condense and mix with the ice in your fridge? Disgusting, right? One way to fix this is to defrost your fridge, which will also prevent this from happening. Defrosting helps get rid of thick layers of ice in your fridge that make it harder for your fridge to circulate air, and will get rid of the ice that smells in your fridge.
Clean Drip Tray: If you notice foul smells coming from the bottom of your fridge, it might be because your drip tray is full of dirty water. The drip tray catches water and moisture that leaks from your fridge, and if you don’t clean it regularly it can start to stink. Your drip tray is located at the bottom of your fridge under the grill beneath the doors.
To clean just simply remove the tray and discard the dirty water. Next, wash down the tray down with warm soapy, and then soak for a few minutes in water and baking soda to get rid of any remaining smell. Then replace it back into the fridge and you’re done.
Circulation: Make sure that your fridge is able to circulate air properly; if it doesn’t then it will have trouble keeping the air inside cold, which means your food won’t stay fresh. Make sure you defrost your fridge regularly, as well as making sure your fridge isn’t overstocked. Too much stuff in your fridge also makes it hard for cold air to circulate, so make sure to remove food on a regular basis.
Is your fridge still smelly? One of our trained technicians can help! Schedule an appointment for a fridge repair with RepairCare online or by calling 1-(888)-501-9702.
