When your new igniter has been installed, replace the burner base, cap and grate. You can then turn the power and gas back on in your stove to test the burner.

Once everything is clean reinstall all the parts and check the burner.

Sparking Baking Element

The most likely culprit in a broken down stove is a faulty baking element, which can be found at the bottom of the oven. If your oven’s baking element is sparking when in use, cut the power source immediately. Baking Soda & Salt

Baking soda is commonly used as an abrasive cleanser. It’s well known for its ability to remove tough muck that’s been stuck onto the stove for a long time. Before applying anything onto the stove, make sure it’s completely turned off and has cooled down to prevent injury.

Sprinkle water all over the stovetop and then do the same with baking soda. Be generous with the amount of baking soda you apply. Sprinkle more water onto the baking soda and make sure it forms a paste-like texture.

Allow the mixture to sit for about 20 minutes. If you notice any spots that have dried out, spray more water on them as it’s important to keep the baking soda wet, as this is what loosens the stuck on food.

After 20 minutes or so, use a dish sponge to scrub the baking soda paste in circular motions. Pay extra attention to the dirtier areas. For areas with more stubborn particles, add some salt into the paste solution and scrub at it. The harshness of the salt won’t damage your stove but it’ll be tough enough to remove the stubborn stains.

After you’ve scrubbed down whole entire surface, use a clean damp cloth and wipe down the surface. Wipe it dry with a kitchen towel or paper towel. Use the same solution of baking soda and water to spot clean the areas that require extra cleaning. Your stove top should be squeaky clean after this.

Water & Vinegar

If your ceramic stovetop is badly stained with lots of cooked-on food, pour water on the surface of the stove and turn on the elements. Once the water starts boiling, the food that’s stuck should start to lift off. Turn off the elements after a couple of minutes and use a damp cloth or paper towel to remove the particles. Be careful in case the elements are still hot! If they are, wait a few minutes until they’ve cooled enough so you won’t burn yourself.

For the particles that are more stubborn and refuse to come off, add a little bit of white vinegar to the water and wait for it to boil. The vinegar will help loosen any fat-based food, making it easier to remove. Again, wait until the burners have cooled a bit to start scrubbing.

Disinfect the Surface

Once the surface of your stove top is clean, it’s important to disinfect the area as there may still be some bacteria latched onto the edges of your stove. Gently scrub at the edges and cracks on and around the stove with a clean, damp toothbrush or any other small brush.

Afterwards, wet the area with undiluted white vinegar and let it sit for about 30 minutes before wiping it away with a paper towel. This will fully disinfect the surface and area of your stove, keeping it clean and bacteria-free!
