Freezer Ice Build Up
Does the inside of your freezer look like the North Pole? There are a couple of reasons this might be happening. The most common is there might be too much humidity inside the freezer. If the freezer door is left open for too long, it can raise the humidity level, which can result in more frost and ice buildup. This can also occur if your freezer door is not aligned properly. Check your door hinges and make sure they aren’t askew. If they are, simply take a screwdriver and tighten any loose screws.
To remove the ice, remove the contents of your freezer and place them somewhere cold. Then with a hair dryer, melt the ice in your freezers. Once it has loosened a bit, take a scraper and gently chip it off the interior of your freezer. When all of the ice has been removed, take a dry cloth and wipe up any excess water; once that’s done you can put your food back in. Poor air flow in a freezer can also result in ice buildup; so when you’re putting your food back, make sure that they are evenly space and not blocking any fans so that the freezer can regulate air flow properly.
Cycling Too Often
Is your fridge cycling so much you’d think it was getting ready for a bike race? Not only is this loud and annoying, it means your fridge is using a lot of energy, which will cost you. The most common cause is that the condenser coils are plugged up dust and other debris. This is a fairly simple fix; clean the condenser coils.
To do this, turn off the power to your fridge. This shouldn’t take you too long, so you won’t have to remove food if you’re quick. Next, locate your fridge’s coils; in most fridges they are located at the bottom of the unit. Once you have found the coils, remove the grill and, using a vacuum cleaner hose, remove the buildup. You can use a brush or cloth to remove any debris that is really stuck in the coils. Once that’s done, put the grill back into place and turn the power back on.
Leaking Water
Water leaking from your fridge is never fun, but it is common and is usually a fairly easy fix. A common reason for a leaky fridge is a blocked defrost drain or clogged. If a blocked defrost drain is your problem, this means that the drain hose is blocked up. This causes ice build up in the hose, which means that the water in the fridge has nowhere to drain, so its will drain out the bottom of your fridge.
Turn off the power to your fridge and locate the blocked hose. Next, find the where the blockage is and use a coat hanger to loosen the clog, or if it’s ice blocking the hose, you can use a hair dryer to melt it. When the hose is clear, you can put it back in the fridge.
